Welcome to MINAP 2012
The MINAP Conference (Micro- and nano-photonic materials and devices), held in Trento (Italy) on January 16-18, 2012, focused on the properties of photonic materials and devices at micro and nano-scale, as well as on their novel or advanced applications, especially in telecommunications, computing, sensing, and energy.
MINAP 2012 also represented the Final Conference of the COST Action MP0702: Towards Functional Sub-Wavelength Photonic Structures, that has had as a main objective to establish active links between European laboratories working in the field of artificial materials for photonics applications, where the structural dimensions are at or below the wavelength of light. Effective links, however, were also established with laboratories in non-EU Countries, such as Armenia, Australia, Belarus, Canada, Japan, Korea, Moldova, Morocco, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Ukraina.
During its activity, started in 2008, the COST Action MP0702, chaired by Prof. Marian Marciniak, has organized and/or sponsored a number of scientific events, including Annual Conferences, all co-located with ICTON - International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks:
1st Annual Conference of Cost Action MP0702, colocated with 11th ICTON (June 28 - July 2, 2009 - Island of São Miguel, Azores, Portugal)
2nd Annual Conference of COST Action MP0702, colocated with 12th ICTON (June 27 – July 1, 2010 - Munich, Germany)
3rd Annual Conference of COST Action MP0702, collocated with 13th ICTON (June 26 - 30, 2011 - Stockholm, Sweden)
The Conference in Trento, organized by the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology (IFN - CNR) in close collaboration with the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) and the Institute of Applied Physics (IFAC - CNR), has seen the participation of more than 110 researchers and experts from 20 Countries.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to:
Prof. Marciniak for the excellent work he has done managing the COST Action and for the precious suggestions he gave us to organize this conference.
All the colleagues in the Management Committee of the COST Action for their collaboration and support.
All the participants to MINAP 2012 for their fundamental contribution to the high scientific level and the overall success of the Conference.
and, last but definitely not least, all the members of the Local Organizing Committee, led by Mrs. Tiziana Martinelli, who worked hard to make the Conference running smoothly and to provide the participants all the necessary information and support (including the very pleasant social events).
Maurizio Ferrari and Giancarlo C. Righini
